In tonight's Dexter, Lumen graduated from "Dexter's Kill School," leaving behind the textbooks and lessons and getting her first taste of cold, knife-wielding revenge. And before Artie Tilden's body could hit the bottom of the harbor, Dexter and Lumen became more than just teacher and protege, sharing a moment of passion where everything, for once, seemed right with the world. Dexter is arguably closer to this girl than he ever was to Rita, someone who, in retrospect, didn't truly know who he is. With Lumen, he's found someone that is also damaged goods and, for that reason, it makes perfect sense that they could be lovers. Of course, such things weren't made to last and one cannot help but thinking that this is the final calm before the unavoidable storm that's on the horizon.

There's only two episodes left! I'm convinced that the producers are trying to induce heart-attacks to the collective viewership as Deb strides closer to discovering his secret (nice red-herring with the neighboring house kill). But one thing they deserve the ultimate kudos for is the great casting this season. Jonny Lee Miller and Peter Weller have been near perfect in their roles thus far. In fact, after this episode, I'm left wondering who's the better character this season: Jordan Chase or Stan Liddy?

On one hand, you have Mr. Chase. As a confident and take charge motivational speaker who has influenced seemingly thousands of people, he represents the most high-profile target that Dexter has ever set his sights on. While he may never have explicitly violated Lumen or the other 12 "barrel girls," he's just as responsible for the dark and inexplicable things that happened to all of them at the hands of his co-conspirators. And he's the one that brought us such amazing moments as "Take care, Lumen….tick tick tick."

On the other hand, you have Stan Liddy. His hair may look like he's always got a finger in an electrical socket, but his relentless, slimy ways know no end. He was once a moderately controlled animal, hungry for the next payment that Quinn dished out. Now he's literally off the chain, hungry to expose the freak that Dexter is and take the credit for bringing down one of Miami's biggest killers. Only around for what seems like 30 seconds per episode, he's caused a whole lot of damage in such a short period of time. His quick and non-stop methods of digging up dirt make Sergeant James Doakes look like the most incompetent detective in the history of law enforcement. By capturing surveillance of Dexter and Lumen disposing of a body and preparing for the Alex Tilden kill, he's got a smoking gun that can forever change the plight of our hero.

The walls are crashing down in precipitous fashion and it's just a matter of which of these last two episodes the secret becomes common knowledge. This season wasn't looking that promising about six episodes ago, but now it's time to buckle your seatbelts for what looks to be a shocking ending. Are you ready?
